Blog 6- Sentence Making

Hello again fellow bloggers! 😇

This week was a very structured and concrete week. I would probably say it was the hardest!

This week's focus for my genius hour was learning how to form proper sentences in Mandarin, applying everything I have learned so far to build sentences, making sure they make sense and are concrete.

I started this week's challenge but remembering all the words I have learned up until this moment and started to structure sentences using the words. It was a bit tough because other filler words needed to be included in the sentences to make it flow and make sense, so I had to learn filler words, such as: and, the, also, etc.

One website that really helped me for this weeks goal was https://www.chineselearnonline.com/activity/sentence-builder/lesson/61/ It has many different activities to help you learn Mandarin, how to structure your sentences, etc. This is definitely a website I would recommend to others. It is easy to use and really helps you learn how to structure sentences properly!

The biggest challenge though, was pronunciation, once again. I think that pronunciation is definitely the hardest part about learning Mandarin, because of all the accents, tones, pitches, etc.

I learned through this week's goal that sentences can't just be thrown together using words you know, as sometimes the tense(s) of the words change in a sentence. Also, since some words sound the same but can have a different meaning- depending on how you pronounce it, you really need to be careful you use the right tone while speaking, or the sentence will mean something completely different!

This will help me be able to create sentences more easily and help my fluency.

My boyfriend is going to help me with my sentences, by having a conversation with me, and cleaning up my sentences, my pronunciation, etc. He will also help teach me more sentences and tricks of remembering words and their meanings.

Thanks for listening!
